----------TRAVEL NOTES

  LAKE GARDA
   Period:  ""
   Province/State:  "LOMBARDIA"
I’ve decided to write these notes following the wonderful holiday we had during the Easter Break on Lake Garda with my wife and my three children. We put everything we needed in our motorhome and departed. The trip wasn’t tiring at all as the motorway was relatively free and even the exit at Peschiera (which is usually a bit of a bottleneck) was fine. We decided to spend the night in a parking area next to the ‘Bella Italia’ campsite, which is well equipped for discharging both grey and black waters as well as refilling the water tank. Moreover, Peschiera is a good base to reach the Gardaland theme park, the largest in Italy, as well as other water parks. The following day we decided to visit the town, which turned out to be stupendous. We took advantage of the ferry to also visit Desenzano. Then we headed towards Lazise where we arrived in the early afternoon. The town is indeed characteristic, surrounded by medieval walls. Just outside the town we found a great parking area (a payment was required) where we stopped the night. We then continued towards ‘Torre di Benaco’, which we think is one of the most beautiful cities on the lake. After lunch we took a stroll into the town centre along the lakefront and we decided to visit the castle, from which there are splendid views of the lake. After supper, we were really able to chill out; we just sat on a bench and tucked into a delicious ice cream. The following morning we treated ourselves to breakfast ‘al fresco’ by the lake and then set of for Torbole, where we stopped in a parking area by the lake. After having visited the small village, we decided to follow the cycle path to reach the village of Arco, a relatively well-known village that’s well worth a visit. Toward evening we reached the following town, Riva del Garda, just 3 km away, where we stopped in an area equipped for campers (payment necessary), suitable for both for loading and unloading waters. A long walk by the lake led us to the centre of the town that is without doubt one of the most characteristic towns on Lake Garda. But unfortunately, we had to leave this really stupendous place, luckily though we took the road that bordered the lake, giving us one last fantastic panorama and then continued towards Sirmione, last leg of our tour. It was very hard to find a parking area near the historical centre, but after a while we got lucky. We took advantage of the early-morning coolness to visit the town and the castle that turned out to be really characteristic. We devoted the afternoon to visiting the caves of Catullo, nominated in Latin poetry. With the memories of the beauty of these towns fresh in our minds we set off for home back along the motorway, thinking about the land that we had just left behind us.
I hope your tour of Lake Garda will be as memorable as ours.
